On January 14 the Huffington Post’s management voluntarily recognized its employees’ union, making the digital media outlet the largest ever to organize. This move followed a wave of similar campaigns who have successfully unionized at The Guardian US, Gawker, Think Progress, Vice, Salon, and Al Jazeera America.

WAM!NYC will host a panel with four journalists who were involved in unionizing their work places.

We will discuss: When and why did you decide to unionize? What tactics proved most successful to you? What are the next steps after forming a union? And, how do you think will this recent trend impact our media landscape?

Speakers:
Madeleine Davies (Jezebel)
Bryce Covert (Think Progress)
Tammy Kim (Al Jazeera America)
Carolina Moreno (Huffington Post)

Moderator:
Martyna Starosta
